Fellow Sailors
The opening of the Sailing seasons is nearly upon us with DBSC 1st race scheduled for Tuesday 22 April – tomorrow week. We have 3 boats ready to participate next week for the opening race of the season.
Due to a slight logistical delay Kennedy transport plan to return Naneen to Dun Laoghaire on Friday 25th April and weather permitting it may be possible to get sails bent on for her to race on opening Saturday 26th April
Oola is expected to arrive in Dun Laoghaire on Monday 28th completing the five boats for this season.
It is also planned that the last boat remaining in the yard near Arklow, Innisfallen, will travel to Kilrush as part of the logistics plan. This is a very historic occasions being the last of the seven sisters to begin her revival journey. Fionán has engaged our great friend Joe St-Leger to record this momentous occasion likely to take place on Saturday 26th April.
Boat preparation
Many thanks to all who helped out with the cleaning and antifouling of Estelle, Geraldine nd Garavogue. Special thanks to Deane for leading the work parties, engaging with the NYC and moving the boats in and out from the moorings.
Similarly, the same boats have had their sails bent on over two evenings and special thanks to John for he pre work in color-coding the lacing lines which made this job some much easier.
Naneen’s sails are ready awaiting her return while Hal is collecting the new sails for Oola as he returns from his European rail odyssey this coming weekend.
Sailing Roster
A new website and booking system has been developed by Mike Reid for our association – www.dublinbay21.ie
It is hoped that all members will visit the website and submit their availability to sail and preferred dates. Gillian Mahony, Elaine Doherty and John Keogh will put together crew rosters based on availability to sail. We have increased capacity (+25%) this year with the addition of the fifth restored boat – Oola, so we should be able to accommodate all sailors whenever you wish to sail.
There is a short Teams briefing tonight (Monday) at 20.30 and again tomorrow night (Tuesday) at 20.30 to explain how the booking system will work. If you missed the briefing last week, try to get along this evening or tomorrow and then submit your availability on the system as soon as possible.
