Fellow Sailors,
Opening DBSC Race
The 2025 Sailing season has finally arrived. While the opening DBSC Tuesday race was denied by the weather gods on Saturday last our on the water fleet of 3 ventured out to weather a lively wind and sea state which certainly shook the cobwebs - and there were many to shake.
Estelle skippered by John Leahy and a crack crew took honours after securing the lead by the 1st mark. Garavogue with Hal as Skipper gamely fought hard and at times were close to threatening Estelle but had to settle for a close second. Geraldine with Fionan leading initially showed form but was unable to make sufficient ground on the leaders but nevertheless enjoyed a super sail and race on the bay.
Fleet Update
Naneen’s arrival has been unfortunately delayed due to further logistic issues - due to the Youth championship last weekend there was no place to facilitate the lorry to park to crane her off. Her arrival is now planned for this Friday hopefully, around 16.00, when she will be lifted in, mast stepped and sails bent on, to hopefully be ready to race on Saturday - fingers crossed.
Oola will travel to Dun Laoghaire next week and all going well will be joining the fleet on Saturday week - 10 May. As part of the moves Innisfallen will take her departure from Ned Kelly's yard near Arklow and travel to Kilrush to begin her revival journey - a very momentous occasion particular for Fionán who carried the torch for this project over many years - often a lonely road. Fionán has engaged our great friend Joe St-Leger to record this momentous occasion.

Sunday Sails / training
Last Sunday saw the commencement of the initial training modules led by John Leahy which focus on leaving and returning to the mooring and also MOB. This is also an occasion to refresh general skills in a less frenetic non racing environment which we can all benefit from. These will continue for the next 3 Sundays, weather permitting after which other initiatives are being planned.
